This study examines the incidence of low income farm households in Ireland, their farm and household circumstances, and the role of farm policy and farm income support measures in alleviating the problem. It reinforces the need for a targeted and comprehensive strategy to tackle farm poverty and for the poverty-proofing of all policies.

Using data from the "Living in Ireland" surveys, this study aims to give an accurate picture of the distribution of income. It investigates how the distribution of income in Ireland has changed over time, how it compares with other countries, and what factors contribute to Ireland's experience.
