Am 21. März 1933 inszenierten die Nationalsozialisten mit dem "Tag von Potsdam" publikumswirksam den Schulterschluss der neuen Machthaber mit den alten, wilhelminischen Eliten aus Adel, Bürgertum, Kirche und Militär. 80 Jahre nach dem Umbruchsjahr 1933 werden im vorliegenden Band die historischen Kontexte des "Tages von Potsdam" als einer entscheidenden Wegmarke bei der Errichtung der nationalsozialistischen Diktatur noch einmal näher betrachtet. In neun Beiträgen von renommierten Wissenschaftlern wird zunächst der Verlauf des "Tages von Potsdam" rekonstruiert, seine Bedeutung in der Gedächtniskultur analysiert und die weiteren Etappen und Faktoren der nationalsozialistischen Machdurchsetzung in den Blick genommen.

On 21 March 1933, the National Socialists celebrated their alliance with the old Wilhelmine elites on the "Day of Potsdam." Eighty years following 1933, the great year of upheaval, this volume more closely reexamines the historical context of the "Day of Potsdam" as a critical moment on the road to dictatorship. Nine scholarly articles reconstruct the events on the "Day of Potsdam" and analyze its importance in the culture of commemoration.
