The International Tourism Congress (ITC) is the annual scientific meeting of the Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (CiTUR). The XV ITC edition was organized by the School of Public Management, Communication and Tourism, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, located in Mirandela, from the 23rd to the 25th of November 2023. Back to main theme of the congress The Image and Sustainability of Tourism Destinations the ITC23 was an opportunity for academics, master and doctoral students to present and discuss national and international experiences on sustainability and development of tourism destinations. Travellers prioritise destinations and activities focused on environmental sustainability and local community investment, therefore, discussing sustainability and the image of tourism destinations allowed the main topics of today's tourism trends to be discussed. The congress brought together researchers in the different fields of sustainability of travel and tourism and invited public administration members, industry leaders, and professionals who wanted to learn more about the most recent trends in the field. The main topics of the conference were: Accessible Tourism, Challenges and Future Trends, Climate Change and Tourism, Consumer Behaviour, Culture/Creative Tourism, Destination Management and Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Events and Leisure, Health Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Hospitality Industry, Human Resources, Low Density Territories, Marketing and Digital Marketing, Nature/Adventure Tourism, Rural Tourism, Smart Destinations, Sustainability, Tourism and COVID19 Effects, Tourism, Gastronomy and Food Tourism, Tourism and Gender, Tourism Governance and Public Policy, Tourism Planning, Tourism Products, Tourism Technology and Innovation, Transports and Tourism, Travel Agencies and Tour Operators, Wine Tourism, Youth Tourism. The conference was organized in cooperation with CITUR (Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation) and UNIAG (Applied Management Research Unit) and focused on the "Image and Sustainability of Tourism Destinations." Debating sustainability and the image of tourism destinations provided an opportunity to discuss the main topics of today's tourism trends. The themes analyzed in the final book of proceedings and the book of extended abstracts reveal that the congress brought together researchers from different fields of travel and tourism sustainability who shared and applied the best practices in tourism. The conference consisted of 4 plenary sessions with 4 keynote speakers and 18 parallel sessions, totaling 106 presentations with full papers and extended abstracts from several countries. A research symposium was also organized to support early career researchers and PhD students in the field of tourism research. It was held on November 23rd and provided participants with the opportunity to discuss the most recent topics, trends, and methodologies with Professor Levent Altinay. All participants had the chance to engage with various stakeholders, including academics, tourism businesses, and the heads of regional and national tourism organizations. The organization of the Congress was well received by the region's stakeholders, as evidenced by the numerous sponsorships obtained, and it was also covered and promoted by the local, regional, and national media. The successful organization of this congress would not have been possible without the involvement, commitment, and dedication of a vast number of people. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the organizing committee, keynote speakers, session chairs, members of the scientific committee, and members of the conference review panel. Additionally, the third-year tourism students deserve praise for their excellent work during the congress. Conference date and place: November 23-24, Mirandela (Portugal) ‹BR
