Description
We investigated the spatial shade patterns of trees and buildings on sidewalks and bike lanes in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We used Lidar data and 3D modeling to analyze the spatial and temporal shade distribution across the City. Our analysis shows significant shade variations throughout the City. One of the original thirteen colonies, Massachusetts became the sixth state to join the Union on February 6, 1788. It is situated on the East Coast of the United States and is bordered by Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. One of the most densely populated states, Massachusetts is the financial and cultural center of New England, and its capital, Boston, is a major shipping center and air terminal. The state is a popular tourist destination due in large part to its historical significance and natural beauty.

Massachusetts was one of the original thirteen colonies, and its capital, Boston, is considered the cradle of the American Revolution. The state was home to some of the greatest American leaders. Its reputation for excellent education is due to its many great universities and colleges, including the world-famous Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Geographically, the state forms a narrow rectangle. Relatively small, it is forty-fifth in area among the states, yet thirteenth in state population.
