Description
To ensure the survival of universal healthcare it is essential to adopt the new paradigm of value based healthcare. Simply to continue increasing the quality, safety, and efficiency of the services treating patients is necessary, but not sufficient. We need to optimise value for individuals and populations and reduce waste, where waste is defined by the use of resources that could produce more value for another subgroup of the population. This requires the traditional division between public health and healthcare bureaucracies on the one hand, and clinical practice on the other, to become a thing of the past with everyone committed to optimising the use of resources for both individuals and populations. That is the mission of population health management and population healthcare.
